Brightspark is all about great software! Over time, we have conceived, designed and created software applications and websites that are used daily by millions of people. Today, we help startups with their software, internet and mobile strategy, and execution. In our labs, we experiment with technologies and ideas; and we launch and operate new internet businesses. In our Ventures division, we manage our investment portfolio of innovative internet and software companies.
Brightspark was founded at the end of 1999. In its first incarnation, Brightspark consisted of Brightspark Labs and Brightspark Ventures. Brightspark Labs was an incubator where new mobile, internet and enterprise software companies were conceived and built. Brightspark Ventures invested in the graduates from our Labs and in external companies. Three notable graduates from the Lab were Think Dynamics, which was sold to IBM, Delos Technology which was acquired by Siperian and Borderfree which was sold to Canada Post.
Brightspark refocused on traditional early-stage Venture Capital in 2002. Brightspark Ventures I continued to make external investments. In 2005 the Brightspark Ventures II fund was announced, focusing on early stage software and internet businesses.
Brightspark is focused on being the expert in Canada’s software and Internet startups.
Brightspark continues to and build businesses in our Technologies division and we manage our VC fund investments in our Ventures division.
